Adult Contemporary music, or AC, is geared towards people ages 25 to 54 years old, and tends to appeal more to women than men. Music from the last twenty years forms the core of Adult Contemporary, but cutting edge rock music and rap is not included in this category. The genre can further be divided:

Hot Adult Contemporary (Hot AC), which features a younger audience and some cutting edge music, is a crossover between pop and AC hits from the past year.

Modern Adult Contemporary (Modern AC) is also geared towards younger listeners, with upbeat, cutting edge music. This genre is similar to modern rock and concentrates on current hits from the past year.

Soft Adult Contemporary (Soft AC) is also known as easy listening, and the primary demographic is those 35 years and older.

Adult Contemporary Oldies (AC Oldies) combines AC and country music and is geared towards people 30 years old and up, playing music from the ’60s through the ’90s.

Adult Contemporary Romantica (AC Romantica) is the Spanish version of Adult Contemporary.
